Monroe Crossing Gives Back to the Community
Monroe, NC, December 21, 2009 – In the current economic climate, Monroe Crossing wanted to focus on the Union County community in multiple ways this holiday season. The campaign started on Black Friday November 27, 2009. The first 250 shoppers received gift bags with coupons and $25 Monroe Crossing gift cards. Santa arrived at XTREME Play for Santa’s and all children who came out for Santa’s arrival were given a free hour of play.
Throughout the month of December, Monroe Crossing haspartnered with a different non-profit each week.“It is important to keep in mind our local community throughout the year, but during the holiday season we wanted to give a more,” said Sarah Enten, marketing director of Monroe Crossing.
Monroe Crossing and Chick-fil-A partnered for a Cow Christmas at Turning Point (local non-profit for battered women and children). Chick-fil-A provided dinner for the night and the Chick-fil-A cow was dressed as Santa and distributed the donated gifts from Monroe Crossing to all of the children.
J.C. Penney’s, First Presbyterian Church and Monroe Crossing provided brand new shoes and socks to 100 Union County School children. The children also had special V.I.P appointments with Santa to tell him all of their holiday wishes and received a photo to take home to their family.
The Sun Valley Elves from Sun Valley High School collected funds to provide necessities (clothes, shoes, socks, etc) to 40 underprivileged children. The students, aka elves, walked with their sponsor child throughout the mall helping them select clothes and other items for everyday needs. Once the children were finished shopping, they had some one on one time with the man in the big red suit. Each child received a photo with Santa and gave him their list of wishes.
Hospice has their tree of love set up at the Belk wing of the mall each day through the holiday season. Shoppers are able to purchase a keepsake ornament for $5 as well as a paper angel with a place to put a loved one name and hang it on the tree.
Monroe Crossing gave a $500 shopping spree to a lucky individual. “This will not only help someone’s holiday shopping be a little easier this year, but will also encourage consumers to shop locally and support our Union County shops and restaurants,” said Sarah Enten, marketing director of Monroe Crossing.
Hundreds of shoppers entered for the $500 shopping spree and the winner was announced on December 18, 2009. Henry Thompson of Monroe, NC collected his early Christmas gift
