The American Red Cross and Monroe Mall hold their 2nd Annual Fashion + Passion Show

February 26, 2008

Monroe, NCThe American Red Cross of Union County, in conjunction with Monroe Mall, is delighted to announce their 2nd Annual Heroes Fashion + Passion Show.  Taking place on March 6th at 7:00pm, this exciting event will showcase local community members modeling a variety of clothing provided by mall merchants, as they raise money for the American Red Cross. Larry Sprinkle of Charlotte’s WCNC News is expected to return as host for the show.

“We can’t thank Monroe Mall enough for their passion in sponsoring our Heroes Campaign Kickoff:  Fashion + Passion,” states Kathy Bragg, chapter executive for the American Red Cross of Union County.  “Monroe Mall is a fantastic community partner, and the community heroes represented in this event are appreciated not only by the Red Cross, but by the community they serve.”

The models come from all across Union County, including the Monroe Police Department, the Monroe Fire Department, the Union County Sheriffs Department, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, and CMC—Union.  As an added treat, the Chick-fil-A Cow will be making a special appearance as a member of the fashion show this year.  Fashion show participants will model clothing provided by JC Penny, Belk, Sears, Pac Sun, and Men’s One.  In addition, Hair Cuttery will be providing hair services.  They will encourage audience support in voting them the Fashion + Passion Ultimate Hero.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve Union County by hosting this special event for the American Red Cross,” states Caroline Adams, Director of Marketing for Monroe Mall.  “The Red Cross is an integral part of our community, assisting all in times of need.”

Participants are encouraged to raise at least $500 each prior to the show, and the public is more than welcome to help them achieve their goals.  All proceeds from the Monroe Mall Fashion + Passion Show will benefit the Heroes for the American Red Cross Fund Raising Campaign, which, over the span of three weeks, involves individuals, groups, businesses, etc. committing to raise a minimum of $1,000 by any means they choose.  This year the program is chaired by Allan Baucom & Ron Sumrow, with Sheriff Eddie Cathey, who has been apart of the campaign for five years, as an Honorary Chair.  Approximately 75 American Red Cross Heroes are being recruited to raise $1,000 for the local American Red Cross this year, and the campaign has risen close to $150,000 for the Red Cross over the past 3 years.

“The Heroes campaign is important because the funds raised in Union County, stay in Union County, and allow the American Red Cross to keep bringing their life saving services to the community,” states Baucom.  “If your house burns down, you can count on the American Red Cross to be there thanks to all the individuals involved in this campaign.”

“I completely agree, and this is an exciting campaign to be involved in,” reports Sumrow.  “It allows the public to come up with creative and fun ways to raise money for the American Red Cross, an organization which provides a multitude of services in our community, including assistance to military families, blood collections, and training people how to save lives through CPR and First Aid.”

“I hope everyone comes out to the campaign’s kickoff at Monroe Mall on March 6th,” states Sheriff Cathey.  “I believe in the work of our local Red Cross, and I urge everyone to support a Red Cross Hero this month.”
